Friday Fav!

Oh my goodness I almost forgot to post this! That would have been a disaster. This is my favorite look from the Oscars this past Sunday. It wasn’t easy to pick just one but I finally pulled out my favorite. This look may surprise you because she wasn’t one of the A listers for the night, but it caught my eye so whateva, deal with it.

Zoe Saldana

Can you say obsessed? There is something so gorgeous about this gown… this whole look really. She rocked an Alexis Mabille Couturedress, Neil Lane jewelry, Roger Vivier shoes, and a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch (not pictured). I don’t know what I like better here… the top half of this getup or the bottom. I LOVE the detail on the bodice of her dress (I’ll show a close up down below), but the bottom is so fun, too! The ombre effect on the train is gorgeous, especially with the color palate they chose. Her soft waves and drop crystal earrings are fantastic as well. This was such a pretty dress, and not overdone since she wasn’t a nominee or anything. She didn’t have to go with the over-the-top ball gown and she didn’t, so I’m a fan! Let’s look at some other angles, shall we?I really like her rings too… you can see them better on the closeup down below. She’s working some stackables! Work it gorl!

So this is my favorite look for the week! What do you think? Who was your favorite celeb at the Oscars? We can still talk Oscars right? It hasn’t lost its momentum yet? Good. I’m glad.

Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! I’m having a low key girls night tonight. Wine, Pizza, board games, gossip, and my best girls. AAAAAHHH what could be better? Until next time, kisses!

Wednesday Worst! Repeat Offender

Hello and good morning my friends! It has been a while, hasn’t it? I think I took myself a nice little vacation from the blog this memorial day weekend. My husband was home from Wednesday night to Monday and it threw my timing all off! So I kind of forgot to post for a while, but the vacation is over and we are back. Let’s kick off the week with a little Wednesday Worst. Unfortunately, this person is a repeat offender who has been featured in this section before.

This fashion disaster happened last week, but it’s too awful to not feature on here even though almost a full seven days has passed since its unveiling. Please, check it out.

I understand that this is an outfit she was only wearing to perform in (thank GOD) so it’s not like she was wearing this on a red carpet or anything, but still, I have to ask myself, does that make it ok to wear sparkly harem pants? I mean… Does she have Xtina’s sparkly diaper on under this get up? Here’s the thing… J.Lo has a HOT body. There is no denying that. And if I look like her at her age, I’m going to want to show my bod off too, but still somehow managing to act my age… in my decade. She’s dressed like a 19 year old from the mid 90’s… channeling her Fly Girl days I assume. It’s all wrong for me. But I still have faith in J.LO because one minute she comes out dressed like this, and the next she’s all done up in some gorgeous gown with her hair all beautiful and her skin glowing. Whoever styles her performances needs a new job, they fail her constantly. If we’ve learned anything here, it’s that sparkly harem pants are never, ever a do. Sorry J.Lo!

The Best and worst of the 2012 Golden Globes

I’m no fashion critic, and based on the conversations I’ve been having with people around the office today, my opinions are wildly varying from others. But, I must share them either way. I look forward to award shows all year round as I literally get giddy when I see everyone all dressed up to perfection. So let’s kick it off shall we? Let’s start with my personal favorite of the night… drum roll please…

Now, I basically have the world’s biggest girl crush on Kate Beckinsale. And I mean, who wouldn’t?! Look at her! She is stunning from head to toe while keeping her look simply classic. She’s not over doing it with the accessories and that is a big plus these days. Her skin doesn’t look orange, her hair isn’t too poofed, her makeup is very soft. She just looks amazing to me. She was by far my favorite look of the night.

And now for some honorable mentions: (and some not-so-honorable mentions).

A lot of people didn’t seem to like Salma Hayek’s look or dress, but I thought she looked incredible. She may be channeling the Terminator, but to me she looked hot. Also worth mentioning, Emma Stone, Jessica Alba, and Heidi Klum. Loved their looks!

Unfortunately, and I’m sad to say this… my worst dressed of the night goes to…….

Oh Sarah. Poor…sweet Sarah. I know her daughter picked out the dress, but her baby is like what, one, maybe two years old? Would she really even notice if you opted for something else? This look is terrible. It looks like the designer ruined her dress but at the very last minute and she didn’t have time to pick out anything else. She’s usually so classy and well dressed! I’m sad.

Madonna… we get it, you’re Madonna. You’re quircky. You have “nice arms.” We get it. Now will you please dress your age.

Another one that upset me. Jessica, what happened here? You look like you borrowed Betty White’s wedding dress from the Proposal. That’s enough, give it back now.

This look doesn’t impress me from Natalie Portman. It looks like the designer had way too much fabric left over and didn’t know what else to do with it but pin it at her side. The fit in her midsection is just all wrong for me. I don’t love this.

A big trend I noticed on the red carpet last night, aside from headbands, belts! A lot of actresses had embellished waists. Frieda Pinto also rocked a belt with her dress last night. I’m not 100% certain how I feel about this trend yet, but it doesn’t ruin any of these looks for me, so it must be ok!

So how did I do? Who were your best and worst dressed from the red carpet last night?

Going Green

I mentioned before that I was falling fast for this whole emerald green trend this fall. Green is, and always has been, one of my absolute favorite colors! There are so many striking shades to be attracted to, and not to mention my eyes are green… so yeah, I’m partial to it. (blue eyes are so over done!)

Emerald green is all over the place this fall from the catwalk to the pages of every magazine and I could not be happier! According to Glamour the color is coming up on dresses in a big way. They even go as far to say it will replace the coveted LBD, gasp! Designers are always looking for a way to break the LBD mold, last season it was the little white dress. I’m all for it. Personally, you can never have too many little dresses of any color, so the more the merrier! If head-to-toe green isn’t exactly an easy look for you to pull off (as it may not be!) you can always try little accents here and there first. Once you’re more comfortable with the color, dive in! Christian Louboutin is all over this trend like white on rice. observe.

And yes, for everyone who is wondering, these two beauties have been on my Wish List ever since the day I laid eyes on them. True Story.

Moving on. US Weekly online did a fantastic recap of celebs rocking the green… we’ll forgive them for their momentary lapse in judgment when they featured Angelina. (yuck) I adore the way Emmy Rossum wore this shade and mixed in other jewel tones with accents on her dress and her shoes. Her classic curls, “look at me” eyes, and popping red lip? So pretty! She must have been feeling extra bold because she even rocked an emerald green clutch! I’m totally swooning over her look. She looks like a modern day Greek goddess. Amanda Seyfried optedfor a dress of the same shade, but a much more relaxed look. The pockets? I love. She not only looks amazing but also comfortable! I know we’re women and we’re supposed to basically kill ourselves to look good, but when you can combine style and comfort? Well, that is really just something to write home about isn’t it? Kudos, Amanda (and stylist), kudos! I also love the little hints of black piping to break up the color without taking away from it.

I must admit, unless I have some fabulous event to go to, I doubt I’ll be wearing this shade from head-to-toe either. How you can introduce it into your wardrobe little by little? Start by playing around with your makeup! Jewel tones look fabulous on your eyes and can add instant drama to an otherwise plane Jane look. Whoever the first designer is to come out with an emerald green blazer, puh-lease let me know! I will be all over that. Thanks!

So how do you feel about this whole trend? What else are you seeing for the Fall that’s peaking your interest? I’m a big fan of this whole cape get-up and all of the lace! The polka dots though… not so much. But it’s still early so we will just have to see! I have been known to change my mind quite frequently.

Another style that has come full circle.

If anyone has any doubt that women are fickle creatures, this fashion trend will put everyone’s minds at ease and confirm it. Think about any girl you know who colors her hair… (especially those fake blonds) what is the first thing they do when their roots start to grow out? If you answered freak out, you are correct! (we would have also accepted have a panic attack or fire their stylist). And then all of the sudden, Rachel Bilson lets her hair grow out and viola! A new fad is born.

This whole ombre brown letting your roots grow out look has really taken the celebrity world by storm. Personally, I don’t quite understand it. Like I said, women as a species are pretty much expected to drop dead at the first sign of a little root growth and now all of the sudden we let our roots grow down to our chins? Ok, sure. I mean, I don’t completely understand the root saga to begin with because I’ve always been one to stick to dark browns on my head and roots don’t scare me. So in my opinion, I actually quite like this look. It’s kind of perfect for girls like me who have always had dark hair but have wanted to dabble around with lighter colors without doing anything drastic. Last year I actually tried to go for this look. I was like, YES, this is my in. I’m goin’ light! I won’t mention the names of any salons (bloom) but they did an awful job. I pretty much ended up leaving the salon with penny colored face-framing highlights and had to fight for a blow out (that I paid for). And the whole process was not cheap. Since then, I’ve been extremely turned off from ever trying out this look again. The stylist had me convinced that it would basically be about a 6 month – 1 year process before my hair would end up like that. Now as I read up on it more, I have to think that is not actually the case. No wonder those stylists make so much money… they’re so savvy. NAHT. Anyway, I’m going to stop my bitch fest now, back to the original topic at hand!

While this look may have started out as a summer trend, I think it’s perfect for Fall! I love the whole I’ve-spent-the-whole-summer-at-the-beach-and-this-is-just-how-my-hair-always-looks look… (you’re not fooling anyone) but the different tones of browns and blonds and caramels look perfect against a fall backdrop and wardrobe.

Here are a few looks from celebs currently sporting this hair style. Some of them I like… definitely the more au’ natural looks like Kristin Cavallari’s and, of course, my girl Rachel Bilson’s. On the other hand…the always edgy Ashlee Simpson and America’s sweetheart Jessical Biel look a little more harsh with this style. Ashlee definitely took this look to a whole new level. What do you think? Is this trend a hit or a miss?

Wilde over Olivia.

I’m not entirely sure where she came from or when she first appeared on the scene, but Olivia Wilde has made a huge splash in such a short period of time. I didn’t give her much thought until I saw her at the Golden Globes in that amazing floor sweeping chocolate Marchesa gown. She is simply stunning and I will admit, I have added her to the list of my girl crushes. When I walked past the magazine racks at King’s during my usual post work grocery shopping trip and saw her on the cover of Marie Claire I was delighted. The spread they did on her was amazing and she looked breath taking in every single image. I’ve picked this one as my favorite because I am a HUGE fan of behind-the-scenes footage of pretty much anything. The more I read on Olivia, the more I love her. If she wasn’t famous, or the fact that she was recently divorced from a prince, literally, you would genuinely think she was just another average jane doe. She is one of those people you find yourself wondering what it would be like to sit down and have a glass of wine with. I wouldn’t mind having the added advantage of being able to borrow her clothes either.
