Like a Rolling Stone

Fun fact.. most of my blog pictures are taken in an alley behind my mom’s office because she takes most of my pictures when we have about 10-15 minutes to spare while she’s at work, hah. Other times, we hop out of the car in other random alleys on the way to dinner to take pictures. That happens to be the case here. Alleys apparently make for some pretty backdrops.

This is one of my favorite skirts and I only got to wear it twice before it disappeared for over a year! Luckily, Matt found it in a long lost dry cleaning bag and returned it to me, haha. I’ll never let it out of my sight again! This skirt is perfection. The pleats and the midi length are a far cry from what I can usually be found wearing, but I love that it pairs perfectly with just about anything. So versatile.

I wore this ensemble into the city for a meeting last week, and this must be my lucky #ootd because it landed me a brand spankin new job! HOORAY! I’m so excited to be back in the city, aaaaand lucky for me, it’s only 3 days a week so I still get to spend a lot of time with Charlotte and Kennedy. Actually, my new job is with a company I’ve been working with for about 3 years now in another role, so yeah… hah. But doesn’t it show how friggen cool this company is that you can show up for an interview in a Rolling Stones tank top and they love it? ;]

Printed Bells

So I’ve had these bells for over a year now and I’ve only worn them a handful of times. I bought them at the beginning of last summer, but they were one of those things that I couldn’t figure out what to pair with them, so I didn’t really wear them that often. However, this summer I just decided to say F it, and throw on little crop tops (shocking, I know) and call it a day.

This crop top, on the other hand, I wear quite often! It’s one of my favorites to throw on with pretty much everything from bells, to skirts, to my trusty overalls! It’s comfortable and to be honest, anything I don’t have to wear a bra with gets extra gold stars in my book. Comfort is key in the summer.

Side note: this is the first time I’ve actually shown my belly button on my blog, hah. It’s become one of those body parts that I spend an unusual amount of energy trying to cover up and hide all the time. It’s become way too exhausting trying to conceal it constantly, and ya know what, I’ve had two babies. This is what my body looks like. My belly button may not be my favorite part of myself anymore, but it’s mine so whatever, here it is world! Deal with it. ;] Anyway. These bells are amazingly comfortable, AND they’re still available, AND on major sale. YAY! Go, go, go!

As you may or may not have noticed, and if you haven’t you soon will, I am in love with fringe. I’ve made no secrets on my blog that I was incredibly weary of this trend coming back around. After all, I am scarred for life after seeing the most ill-fitting unflattering camel suede jackets with fringe so long you could sweep the floor with them everywhere during my adolescence. So, needless to say, I was late to this trend party, but as with all trends, you experiment and you find the right fabrics and fits that work for you. I mean, I love me some Randy Savage, but I’m not about to channel him in my wardrobe, you know? Sometimes, less is more.

I’m really into how warm it has been lately; I think September and October may be my favorite months as far as fashion goes. It’s a little cool one day so you can layer on your favorite fall essentials but then it’s like 70 degrees the next day so you can still tap into your summer favorites; like this tank top or strappy heels. I didn’t even have to throw an extra jacket in the car to go with this outfit, it’s crazy but I’m so into it.

Isn’t this skirt fun? It’s a whole lot of fringe and leather; two trends I’m really enjoying at the moment. I love when designers mix trends like these two without going overboard. It’s a win win for everyone. Speaking of fringe! I’m going to be teaming up with a few of my favorite bloggers next month to show you how we all do fringe, so be sure to keep checking back for that! You will not want to miss it, promise!

Before I tell you guys all about this denim event, let’s talk about designer sunglasses at insanely affordable prices. If you have not heard of Ditto Eyewear yet, let me drop some knowledge on you. I am a sunglasses addict. I have more pairs than I can count and I think I legitimately buy a new pair at least weekly. Ditto Eyewear is a new and exclusive service that lends you designer shades (and actual glasses) for a small monthly fee. Once you’ve tried on your most recent heart’s desire, you simply request a new pair with your personal stylist. They mail out you next shades immediately with a prepaid shipping label to return your original selection at no cost to you. It’s brilliant I tell you, BRILLIANT! You can try out the service for free for your first month by using code THERACHELROSS at checkout here! I’ve already taken two pairs of Karen Walker’s and a Prada for a test run and I plan on basically trying them all.. because I mean… I’m addicted right?IMG_5163 IMG_5164 IMG_5166 IMG_5167

IMG_5185 IMG_5186

Ok, so now about the jeans! Like I said, for the entire month of October South Moon Under is offering their amazing denim selections at 20% off. Brands include Citizens of Humanity, BLANK NYC, Hudson, Free People, AG and more! Want to know what the great cause is? Great, I thought so! All month long you can bring in your old jeans to be donated to the Blue Jeans Go Green denim recycling program where your old wardrobe will be recycled into denim insulation which is pretty friggen amazing if you ask me! I’m somewhat of a hoarder, really… I still have jeans from high school, but over the weekend I cleaned out my drawers and I’ll be stopping at SMU soon to donate these old rags as soon as Joaquin heads out of town. So be sure to stay safe if you’re on the east coast! THEN be sure to head to South Moon Under to do your part for a good cause, and THEN reward yourself with 20% some new jeans. ;]

Orange You Glad You’ve Got Happy Feet?

Ok this blog title makes like 0 sense, really, but I like it and it makes me happy, ha. I saw a pair of orange heels on Pinterest years ago… literally, when I first signed up for the website. Ever since I have always wanted a pair but could never find the perfect ones. When you shop with something specific in mind you never find it, isn’t that always the case? Ami Clubwear recently sent me the perfect pair of orange heels that I have been hunting for and I am oh so stoked on it!

I mean come on guys! Don’t you love these shoes? They are so bright and cheery! Plus they added the right amount of sass to an otherwise pretty casual outfit. I love the way distressed boyfriend jeans look with a chunky heel. Shoes like this can tend to be extremely uncomfortable, so I was worried about that since I never got to try them on first (damn you online shopping) but I was pleasantly surprised with how easy these were to wear!

One of my favorite ways to update a look is to play around with my accessories. I happened to have two of these identical necklaces from Roman Luxe that have an adjustable chain. I wear one a little looser and layer on a second one with it for a bold look. If I had five of these I’d probably wear them all together at once to get this look. I’m obsessed with this necklace! It’s on sale now too… may have to scoop one up!

Slip into Something a Little More Comfortable

With the temperature slowly rising I cannot help but get giddy over spring and summer garments. Just this morning I tried to walk out of the house in a backless t-shirt only to have to turn around and throw on a sweater because it was slightly more breezy than I had anticipated. However, there is a perfect combination for these not quite hot, not quite cool days; a light dress and a long cardigan.

Isn’t this necklace so cute? I love how delicate it is. When my cousin and I were in Florida she took me to this store that was packed from wall to wall with delicate little pieces like this or bold statement accessories. They pretty much had anything you could think of, and the best part, almost nothing was above $20. (This necklace was only $12…. for real). I can’t remember the exact name of the place, but it’s in Naples… if you’re ever in that area, haha!

IMG_7030 IMG_7033 IMG_7034

When I think of slip dresses it only feels appropriate to pair them with a slinky little bralette. Slip dresses tend to be a little looser and a bralette is often times supposed to be seen, so they pair perfectly together. I love this dress from Pink Blush; it is so sweet and feminine! I felt very cozy with this light dress wrapped up in my long knit cardi. Although… as much as I love my layers, I am SO looking forward to shedding a few this summer and wearing this dress with nothing over it. Who’s with me?

The Scenic Route

I live in such a pretty area, I love exploring! I’ve lived in the same time my whole life [save for a few years in College and after I move next month!] but I still feel like there’s so much to see here… like this gaawwwwwwgous waterfront in Red Bank. My husband used to go fishing here with his Grandfather all the time when he was young, but I didn’t even know it existed!

That “little” white house behind me? Yeah, that’s Bon Jovi’s. No big deal. And by little house I really mean small compound.

DSC_4329 DSC_4330 DSC_4333

I love the color of this dress. It looks perfect with my skin color since I can’t seem to catch a tan for my life! Thank goodness for Arbonne’s sunless tanner! It’s a life saver. (I’m on my 3rd bottle since April… don’t judge me).

The small gold square ring is actually a pinky ring! Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how ya look at it, it doesn’t fit on my pinky! It’s too big :[ It only fits on one finger… my left ring finger. Figures! But I love it so much sometimes I wear it instead of my wedding rings… my husband hates it, but he just doesn’t understand what us women do for the love of fashion!

These earrings are known as “The pair that goes anywhere.” So versatile and perfect! Don’t mind my necklace here… I switched it out before I left, hah. Anyway! It’s a crappy day here in NJ, so I’m planning a fun shoot for later! Stay tuned ;] Until next time, kisses!

Style Bandit

This is one of my favorite shirts.. I’ve posted about it before. I love, love, love the print and the bow detailing around the neckline adds a little extra sweetness. Don’t mind my stink eye…

I’ve talked about this company before, eShakti, they offer a wide variety of clothing that is 100% customizable. It’s so fun! I have a lot of fun shopping their site, picking out tops and dresses, adding details and taking them away. You can even customize the length of a dress or a skirt. This little bow around the neck, don’t like? That’s cool, take it off! Seriously, it’s a blast, and I can walk around knowing there won’t be many, if any, other people walking around wearing the same thing I am. Cool right?

DSC_4311 DSC_4310 DSC_4301

I love this bag as well! It’s overlapping two-tone leather is perfect because it matches just about everything! The whole inside is lined with zebra print, which basically if you know me, means it was made for me! ;] It can be worn as a clutch or a cross body, even more perfect!

I called this post Style Bandit because my dad had a pet raccoon when he was younger and naturally they named it Bandit. He lasted a very short time before my Grandmother came to her senses and realized a raccoon was not an appropriate house pet. But I saw a baby raccoon while driving the other day and he was, by far, the cutest baby creature I have ever seen. I can see why she accepted the deal in the first place.

Anywho, that’s all for today, folks! If you’re on the twitterverse today at 3 join me at @The_RachelRoss and @Romansunstone to talk fashion favorites and fails during #StyleChat! Just follow the hashtag. See you then! Kisses!

Friday Fav!

It’s that time of the week again and I know you all have been on the edge of your seats wondering who I’m going to praise this week. No? You haven’t? Oh well. I’ll show you anyway!

The winner of the week goes tooooooo……

Claire Danes!

How awesome does she look in this sexy little neon number? As the world knows, neon is like the hottest thing right now. I am love, love, loving her in this neon pink dress! I love that it’s sexy enough to steal the show on its own and she didn’t overdo it with a ton of other accessories or accents. Just the right amount of boobage being shown, very understated jewelry, she didn’t go overboard with the makeup and yet somehow her eyes are still smoldering. I am drooling over this look! The girl looks hawt. Like back in her Romeo and Juliet days, makes me happy! I love a good comeback.

So there ya have it folks! That’s my favorite look this week. What do you think of it? Did she nail it, or does it fall flat for you? I love to get everyone else’s opinion! (I really do, I’m not just saying that haha). So let me know! Leave me a comment, let me know what you think or who you would have voted best dressed this week!

ALSO. I have a fab tutorial coming your way next week so stay tuned for that. And the Linea Pelle sample sale ends today. I hope you guys stocked up on lot’s of goodies! I’m sure mommy would love a new Linea Pelle bag for Mother’s Day… wink, wink, nod, nod!

My Secret to the Next Day Blowout

If you have hair like mine, blowouts can be kind of bittersweet. You love blowing out your hair because let’s face it, when it’s in its natural state it can be kind of cray, but the next day your hair just never, ever looks as good. It’s a total bummer. BUT my dear sweet friends, I have a solution for you. I have the curliest of curly hair. Please note something that I swore I would never share with the public… a picture one of my best friends took of me while camping in the jungles of Costa Rica. We literally lived in a tree house for a week. It was amazing, if you can get used to the Howler Monkeys waking you up at 4 in the morning like they’re about to storm into the place and eat you alive. Other than that, and the bugs (of course), it’s a lot of fun, ha. So anyway, as you can imagine, life in the jungle isn’t exactly the equivalent to a spa treatment for my hair.

Observe: This lovely picture, taken in January of 2009, haunts my life. THIS is what my hair looks like in its natural habitat, the jungle. That’s where I belong with this mane. Ok it’s not REALLY this bad, this was after some brushing but when people say “oh just let your hair air dry and then style it” this is what I would have to walk around with first. And that, my friends, will never, ever, happen. EVER. There was even a phase like a year ago where “frizz was in” and I was like YES this is my chance! But even then I was like no, this looks insane. Literally.

SO anyway! As you can guess, all the hair gel in the world can’t really contain my locks so I never wear it curly anymore. Blow dryers and straighteners are typically part of my daily routine. But there is nothing more frustrating than going through all the effort of blow drying your hair only to wake up with it all matted to your head with sweat looking like a hot mess. It really sogs my bread, ya know? SO! Over the years I have come up with the best solution. Take a look at this short video to learn all the secrets about how to preserve your blowout for as long as possible! Enjoy!

So that’s it folks! All you need is a 2 inch curling iron and you can make your blowout last for days. Here are a couple pictures I took about 20 minutes after filming the video so you have a better idea of what your hair will look like.

See! The curls have fallen out and you are left with beautiful waves. You look like you just walked out of the hair salon. A couple other tips I wanted to add that I didn’t mention in the video were how to wear your hair when you sleep. After I give myself a blowout I always sleep with my hair in a loose top knot on top of my head. That way your hairs not all over the place getting all hot and sweaty and sticking to your neck throughout the night. Keeps you cool and keeps your hair in a wave-like formation for the next morning. Another plus of using the 2″ curling iron for touch ups? The heat from the barrel acts as almost a flat iron when you use it. It’s big enough and hot enough to smooth your hair, but not small enough to straighten it like a flat iron will. You can use this trick for as long as your hair will allow. Since my hair is thicker it doesn’t need to be washed that often. If you have thinner hair you might have to wash your hair every day or every other day.

So let’s recap shall we? Blow dry your hair. Wear it and love it all day and night. When it’s time for bed wrap it up in a nice, loose top knot. The next day, “curl” it with a 2″ curling iron, nothing smaller! And there ya have it. That should preserve your blowout for as long as you want it to. Try it out! Let me know how it works for you. :]

ALSO! Don’t forget Linea Pelle is having their super amazing sample sale today & tomorrow. So if you’re in the LA area you should definitely stop by and snag some goodies. (I may or may not have already done so this morning). Best way to start the day! Enjoy. xo
