Black Tie Optional

I can’t tell you guys how long I have wanted to a tuxedo dress. I first saw blogger Brooklyn Blonde wearing one and I nearly melted. She looked amazing. I quickly reminded myself that not everyone looks as good in certain things as others, and I certainly wouldn’t look as great in anything she wears, the tuxedo dress is a tough trend to pull off as it is… however! I spotted this one from Closet London and threw caution to the wind. Now it’s a part of Closet Rachel (see what I did there? hah!) and I love it! What do you guys think?

I love this dress because you can never have too many LBD’s and but after a while they all kinda look the same. Obvi, as I’ve already said, I’m pretty much in love with the tuxedo-style detailing. It’s Market Week at work (again) and I think I might have to throw this on for the occasion.

I threw the belt on to cinch the waist a little bit and add a bit of color but to be honest it doesn’t necessarily need it. The dress fits like a glove. It may run a tiny bit on the smaller side but not by much… I think going the next size up would be too much room. Just an FYI. :] Hope y’all had a great weekend! Stay warm!

Check Please

Typically this time of year on the East coast I would not be able to walk around in skirts or dresses without some serious layering action, but with this mild winter we have been experiencing thus far I’ve been able to re-wear some of my favorite fall pieces.

I am trying not to enjoy the weather we have been having too much because I know a terribly cold winter is really just around the corner. It’s going to be bitter and awful… I’m really not looking forward to it, ha. We’ve been so spoiled but at the same time it’s kind of hard to get in the holiday spirit around here, isn’t it? Is this how people on the West Coast feel? Like, how do you get excited for a snowy Christmas when you can go out and about in a t-shirt and jeans? It’s strange!

IMG_9726IMG_9721IMG_9723

Anyway! I’m really into this skirt. I used to stay far, far away from anything with a print because they can be really unflattering when you’re curvy like myself, but I’ve been trying to teach myself to embrace that shit lately. Lucky for me, this skirt seemed to hug all of the right places instead of pointing out my large hips and thighs. It’s high waisted so in the warmer months I can pair it with a cute crop top or light t-shirt. Point being, it’s one of those items you can wear over and over again!

These Boots were Made for Walking

I’m a big fan of the moto boot… moto jacket… pretty much anything with the letters m-o-t-o in front of it are a win for me. After hosting an event with Marmi shoes last month I was torn between snagging a cute pair of heels or a pair of boots I could not take my eyes off of (they also had uh-mazing sneakers that I pretty much need). Heels I have a plenty but these boots basically had to come home with me.

What eventually ended up winning me over were the details. All other pairs of boots I have that might look similar have very different features. I liked the little heel and the fact that the buckles were black and not silver. I wore them with a long button up dress during the event so I knew they would be versatile and easy to pair with just about anything. I call them by BAMF boots, because I feel pretty friggen badass while wearing them, ha.

While attending the Lulu’s fashion week party I picked up this sweater. There isn’t anywhere to try on clothes during the event, so I had to go with something I knew would fit and flatter without actually seeing it on. I am a huge fan of BB Dakota so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed, and I wasn’t! I can leave the back open on warmer days or layer up when it gets cooler, this sweater is perfect!

From the Window Pane Print to the Wall

Til the sweat drop down my…. ok that’s enough. This song brings me back to the days of school dances… not at my school, because I don’t think they would ever play this song but the epic CBA school dances. Holler if you’re from NJ and know what I’m talking about, haha!

Leather shorts with tights are one of my absolute favorite looks for fall and winter! I love pairing tights with pieces that would not normally be worn in the cooler months, like a sun dress for example. It’s a fantastic way to drag out the wearability of your summer wardrobe.

I wore this outfit for what was supposed to be a regular date night out with the hubs, that ended up being one of the most interesting nights of my life, HA. I won’t get into details, but it was a first for me, I’ll just say that. You can also kind of see the pink in my hair that I have been trying like hell to wash out since last week! Don’t get me wrong, I’m obsessed with it, but I have something coming up I need to have normal hair for! Which I really can’t wait to tell you guys all about it! eeeek! ;] Um, by the way, it is getting WAY too damn cold out to take any decent blog pictures. I’m going to have to start investing in some really cute coats because that’s about all you will be seeing me wear very soon. bah hum bug!

Girl’s Night Necessities

This past weekend I had the pleasure of getting to spend some much needed girl time with some of my sorority sisters from college! My “family” decided to get together for dinner & drinks (water for me of course) so the older girls could meet the newest members of our family. If you’re not in a sorority and have no idea what I’m referring to here, I apologize, ha.

IMG_0937Look who’s here! It’s Zorro! Who, along with his brother, decided to run away about 10 minutes after these pictures were taken. Luckily they didn’t go far, just explored our neighbor’s yard and what our house looks like from underneath it. We have an enormous wrap around porch that they thought would be fun to camp out under for about an hour. My husband and I sat outside in the pouring rain searching for these idiots for a long time. Thankfully they were fine and could be lured back into the house with bacon treats. However, I did have to re-do my hair and makeup before heading up north for dinner which made me super late. UGH. Having puppies is such a joy….. ;]

I’m obsessed with kimonos! I’m particularly drawn to them right now because they’re something I can wear all throughout my pregnancy since they don’t close in the front. They add so much style and a weird sense of elegance to any outfit. I love the colors and pattern of this one from Forever21. They have so many great ones it was hard to choose! IMG_0955_2 IMG_0957_2I’m really obsessed with these shoes! Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe are often on point when it comes to their shoe selection. They’re always good for fun styles or bright colors that absolutely will not break your bank. However, I feel the need to mention, these were entirely uncomfortable to wear at first. They’re the kind of shoes that need a lot of breaking in, ha, but they get the job done. Plus they’re like the perfect combination between booties and heels. Anywho!  Dinner was a blast, it’s so much fun catching up and pretending I’m in college again, and it’s always good to have a legit reason to dress up, isn’t it? ;]

Baby Fever!

This past weekend my mother-in-law hosted the most beautiful baby shower for my husband’s cousin, who is due next month! Also attending the shower was another cousin on his side who is due in July! You might say we have baby fever, ha. It was such a lovely afternoon, I love family get togethers, and even more so when there is an adorable theme, like babies!

I really love this necklace… It has become my go-to statement necklace. I love that it’s actually from their Bridal line. It proves that Bridal jewelry can really be the most versatile! The fact that you can wear it over and over makes spending any amount of money on it not seem so bad. However, I’ll let you in on a little secret… this bridal jewelry will not break your bank! Praise the wedding gods! IMG_0694 IMG_0698Words can’t express how happy I am that I found a well-lit area of the house to take pictures inside! It’s just too damn cold for me outside to take any pictures these days. Womp womp! I can’t wait for warm weather, I get giddy just thinking about! Anyway… here are a couple pictures from the shower itself!

Me, Heather, and Tara. The three of us are the expecting cousins! haha. ..It was Heather’s big day! She’s due next month. I can’t wait to meet her little nugget!! My husband’s side of the family is growing fast! So many babies.

image-11How cute are these?! For a “champagne” toast! My mother-in-law is a wizard of her craft! She even made little tea sandwiches that she cut with cookie cutters in the shapes of ducks, teddy bears, and baby bottles! I’m so sad I didn’t get a picture of those, they were too cute for words. So that’s all folks! I have a giveaway coming up for you guys soon, cause I just love ya so much! So keep an eye out for that. In the meantime, have a great Monday, it’s almost over!
