More Florals for Spring

Disclaimer: my blog is about to OD on florals. I don’t know what it is because I am not usually one for the flirty, feminine print… but I can’t get enough of them this year! Maybe it has to do with my mood? When you’re a happier person you want to wear happier things… right? ;]

Remember a couple posts back when I was telling you guys about these Forever21 tank top bodysuits and how I bought them in 4 different colors… one of which was pure white and one (this one) that’s off white? I thought I was crazy at the time because they were SO similar, but it really was smart purchase! The off white color matches this skirt perfectly! A pure white tank would have looked way too bright and white with this outfit. I am pleased! I wore this to work a few weeks ago when we were lucky enough to have a warm day and now that the weather has taken a turn for the better I can wear it all the time!

So! As a few of you may know… or have noticed…. I take most of my pictures in this location. My mom is my photographer (lolz) and honestly, we usually snap pictures REAL quick while she’s at work and has 15 free minutes to take them… so we run downstairs to the alleys by her office and shoot away. WELL, for so many reasons this has become my favorite place to take blog pics over the years, and I’m sad to say I won’t be able to shoot here much longer. As of a few months ago they have started tearing down all of the buildings in the area in order to start re-developing the city. Which, I guess, in the long run is great for the area, but now I’m losing all of my favorite landmarks to blog with. Peep that open window behind me in the last photo… my mom was curious to see what the inside of this abandoned building was like so she literally climbed inside, hah. I don’t think she saw anything very noteworthy.. probably just a lot of empty bottles and such. Ah, but that’s why I love my mom… she’s such an adventurer. ;]

Florals for Spring?

Groundbreaking! Ok, in all honestly I only saw The Devil Wears Prada for the first time this year… so this quote was totally over my head until about 2 months ago, ha. The Devil had a point though… florals for spring may not be groundbreaking, but they sure are beautiful..

I had originally bought this dress to wear to a baby shower last month, however, the day of the shower it was a bone-chilling 20 degrees and windy AF, and I was like there is no way I am wearing this dress in this weather. It was worth the wait, though. I finally got to wear it this past weekend when my boyfriend and I attended an alumni brunch for my sorority up at my old college… shout out to my Deephers. :] It was the most beautiful day, we finally had some warm sunshine after 2 days straight of nothing but rain, and this dress was perfect for the occasion.

IMG_6834IMG_6833IMG_6830

Heat Wave from NARS used to be my go-to red lip. It has a slight orange tint to it, so I loved that it wasn’t a true red. However! A few months ago I received this lipstick from the girls at South Moon Under and I really have to say I’m obsessed with it. I can’t stop wearing it. It’s so vibrant, the perfect shade of red, and long lasting! Also I think it’s the exact same shade as this dress… so that’s a plus!

Expect Nothing

I love wearing clothing with a personalized message.. maybe it’s the 90’s girl in me that just had to own a nameplate ring or necklace, ya know? This flannel came right off the rack from Forever21 a few weeks ago, so I’m quite certain about 18 thousand tweens are also wearing it right now which takes away from the “personal” message aspect.. but it sends a message just the same.

When I bought this flannel I thought I would wear it a couple times here and there and I kid you not, I have not stopped wearing it since I bought it. I’m actually wearing it right now as I post this… for reals. Over the weekend I paired it with a different pair of black distressed jeans, a black plunging neckline bodysuit, and high top sneakers to attend a concert. This particular flannel is super warm, so I used it as kind of a jacket, and then wrapped it around my waist once I got to the venue as it was absurdly hot in there. Thank god the 90’s trends are a thing again.

IMG_6390IMG_6387IMG_6368IMG_6366IMG_6363IMG_6361IMG_6352IMG_6350

ALSO! We need to talk about this tank top bodysuit because I bought it in 4 different colors. It’s so comfortable and it seriously works with everything. I’ve worn them with skirts, jeans, sweats… literally everything. And believe it or not they were on sale for like $8 each. So yeah… it wasn’t hard to convince myself to buy several. Expect to see them on the blog A LOT the next few months!

Feeling Grey

Yesterday was the first day of spring and there is still slushy, dirty, gross piles of snow all over NYC. Yum! It doesn’t feel very springy yet…so I’m trying to be patient, but we have had a couple days here and there the past month where you could get away with bare legs and I took full advantage!

I love this dress because it’s insanely comfortable. I’m all about those t-shirt and sweater style dresses. This one in particular fits like a glove but it doesn’t suffocate me, ya know? What could be better than that? It was supposed to be warm the day I took these pictures… but when you get down by the beach it was FREEZING. Hence the weird faces in half these photos.. I was shivering, haha.

IMG_5424IMG_5422IMG_4939

I am HOPING (fingers crossed!) that is is almost time to ditch the pants and jeans and whatever else all together and wear nothing but skirts and dresses on the blog soon. That really puts me in my happy place. Happy spring, guys!

Black Tie Optional

I can’t tell you guys how long I have wanted to a tuxedo dress. I first saw blogger Brooklyn Blonde wearing one and I nearly melted. She looked amazing. I quickly reminded myself that not everyone looks as good in certain things as others, and I certainly wouldn’t look as great in anything she wears, the tuxedo dress is a tough trend to pull off as it is… however! I spotted this one from Closet London and threw caution to the wind. Now it’s a part of Closet Rachel (see what I did there? hah!) and I love it! What do you guys think?

I love this dress because you can never have too many LBD’s and but after a while they all kinda look the same. Obvi, as I’ve already said, I’m pretty much in love with the tuxedo-style detailing. It’s Market Week at work (again) and I think I might have to throw this on for the occasion.

img_4951img_4949img_4947img_4943img_4941img_4939

I threw the belt on to cinch the waist a little bit and add a bit of color but to be honest it doesn’t necessarily need it. The dress fits like a glove. It may run a tiny bit on the smaller side but not by much… I think going the next size up would be too much room. Just an FYI. :] Hope y’all had a great weekend! Stay warm!

Laced Up

I love wearing bodysuits… and that was not something I ever thought I would say about a year ago. As I’ve mentioned on here before, I was unsure I had the right body-type to wear one, in my opinion. I always thought you had to be rail thin with huge boobs, but here I am. I ordered one online from American Apparel last year without trying it on. I was like screw it, if I try it on in a store I’ll just talk myself out of it. So I bought it, tried it on at home with something high waisted, and fell in love. These days I try on every bodysuit I come across, and this one may be my new favorite.

At first glace this top looks like it may be some slinky lingerie, but I promise you, it’s not! hah. What I don’t actually love about this bodysuit is the bottom half… the lace bodice stops about half way and then it turns to a solid piece of fabric. It starts up way too high so it can only be worn with something high waisted… which I guess isn’t terrible, but it is definitely limiting. However, the strappy top and lacy detail make this a perfect bodysuit to layer under something a little more loose fitting for that sought after peek-a-boo look.

img_4936img_4933img_4932img_4930img_4927img_4928

I’m still obsessed with this skirt. It will forever be a go-to when the weather starts to warm up. I’ve worn it with everything from chunky sweaters, to crop tops, to band t-shirts, to button-ups. One of the best items I have in my closet for sure. It’s about 2 years old now, so I can’t find the exact style online anymore but I’ve linked to something similar above!

Weekend Hangs with my Little Ones

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own*

This past weekend we had a break in the cold weather for a couple days and I wasn’t the only one beside herself with excitement; my girls wanted to spend as much time outside as possible as well! We hung out at the park, cleaned out my car, had pretend picnics on a blanket in the front yard.. all in all it was a pretty great weekend.

Ok so full disclosure… while I do love spending time outside when the weather warms up, the thing I really get the urge to do is shop! As soon as it gets even a little bit warm I am overcome with the urge to go spend money… it’s terrible, honestly, but I can’t help it. I just feel like I have to buy a whole new wardrobe in like one day for myself and the girls! With that said… thank goodness for Groupon! I used to only use this site for deals on outings and getaways… I had no idea you could actually find free coupons on there. Yup, you read that right, FREE coupons for shopping! When you have three people to shop for instead of just yourself you could really use all the help you can get. I spend hours browsing this site and hoarding all of the coupons I can find… don’t judge me. You can find steals for stores and websites alike so even if you get the itch go shop on a cold day you don’t have to leave the comfort and warmth of your own home. Win win!

You can find steals for stores like Forever21, Kohls, Macys, Walgreens… all stores that I love to shop at not only for myself but for Char and Kennedy as well, and that’s just to name a few. If you haven’t perused Groupon for coupons yet, do yourself a favor and do so now! You can thank me later. ;]

Admittedly one of my guiltiest pleasures that comes from being a mother of two little girls is matching with them, hah. Charlotte calls us both “fashionistas.” One time she said to me, “Mommy, Kennedy doesn’t care as much about fashion and style as we do. She’s not a fashionista.” I don’t know where she comes up with these lines but she kills me. I can get my girls to wear almost anything if they know I’m wearing a version of it myself. If I asked them to throw on a pair of black sneakers in general they would both throw a fit, but if I’m wearing them they jump at the chance to match their mama… and I love that!

A Little Rusty

We had a little taste of spring weather over the weekend and I’m not going to lie to you… it made me down right giddy. There was something about walking outside and not immediately wishing you were back indoors that put me in a marvelous mood for 3 days straight, so I threw on this little rust-colored lace up dress to celebrate.

I actually wore this exact outfit to Thanksgiving dinner with my family. It was unseasonably warm for November so I took advantage. I usually opt to wear these over the knee boots as an alternative to pants when it’s not absolutely freezing outside and the extra long over the knee socks added a little warmth as well!

img_4899img_4897img_4894img_4892img_4844img_4901

I feel like we can see the light! The season of bare legs is upon us, guys! And while I love my layers I seriously can’t wait to shed them and start buying nothing but little sun dresses and sandals!

Laid Back Lace

I’m all about those pieces that can be dressed up or dressed down with just the right accessories and this little lace embellished dress fits the bill.

You know nothing John Snow…… Ok sorry just had to get that out. LOL. I always feel like I belong on Game of Thrones when I wear this coat. Drop me off at the Wall for a little while… I wouldn’t be mad at it. Anyway! Back to the dress. If you can’t tell from the close ups, it’s t-shirt material, which is an instant win for me. So it’s super comfortable but the lace detail takes it up a notch in the looks category, which brings me back to my ‘dress it up or down’ point. Here I’ve dressed it up with the boots, but it could easily be worn dressed down with high top sneakers and a baseball hat.

img_4264img_4261img_4226img_4223

Do you guys loooooove this bolo? Plot twist: I made it myself! They are so insanely easy to make, and relatively cheap compared to buying one in stores. Perhaps I’ll do a DIY blog post on it sometime soon?img_4221img_4217img_4215img_4214img_4210

I don’t know about y’all but I’m sure over this crappy weather we’ve been having. Although, I can’t really complain because it’s only snowed twice this year, which is pretty wild for New Jersey. HOWEVER. It has been cold and rainy and windy and that kind of weather = NO blog pictures, guys. So yeah, I feel like complaining. On the other hand… February is almost half way over which means March is right around the corner and then it’s April so hello warm weather… almost! ;]

Book Smart

Last year I joined a book club with a few of my sorority sisters. After commenting on and posting a few Facebook statuses looking for book recommendations we decided it was time we started our own little book club. Each month a different member picks a book, we all (try to) read it, and then we meet for dinner or Sunday brunch to discuss. This month we all met in our old stomping grounds, Morristown, for lunch to talk about our latest read, Ready Player One. (GREAT book, by the way! If you’re looking for a new book).

SO! Quick story about these sunglasses that I’m obsesssssssssed with. I have always wanted these exact shades, but for some reason I never actually bought them for myself… or received them as a gift, ha. WELL. I found them at my local Nordstrom Rack for $70……….. $70!! And they were the only pair in the entire store. It was fate. And welcome to my wardrobe, dream shades!

img_3854img_3849img_5019img_5023img_3841-1

My Little (sorority term) is part of my book club now and I made her and another sister of ours, Jess, take these pictures. I’m hysterical in half of them because they kept competing with each other over who could take the better photos, hah. They both did great, obviously! After our book club meeting the three of us stayed behind to catch up a little more. I kind of miss gallivanting around our old hood.. Ah to be young again!
